The updated order represents the need for additional capacity and efficiency for Qatar Airways. Originally, the order was placed in 2011. Deliveries will start from 2019 onwards.

Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive said: “At a time when Qatar Airways is experiencing unprecedented growth and expansion, the need for efficient, reliable and modern aircraft has never been greater. To answer our need for growth and additional capacity, the A321Neo ACF is a world-class choice for our passengers and for our business. Qatar Airways is the fastest growing airline in the world and with this aircraft we will operate the youngest fleet whilst delivering unprecedented comfort and services to our customers.”

The deal was signed by Akbar Al Baker and Fabrice Brégier, Airbus Chief Operating Officer and President Commercial Aircraft, who added: “We are pleased that a signature airline like Qatar Airways has chosen the A321Neo ACF. This is an endorsement for the largest member of our single aisle family.”

A321Neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex configuration) is the largest aircraft in Airbus´ single aisle A320-family and offers seats for over 240 passengers. The ACF-version features new door and fuselage enhancements, which allow a better use of cabin space. Also, new underfloor fuel capacity ensures a range of 4,000nm, which make the aircraft a middle of the market product. New engines and Sharklets should lead to a reduction in fuel consumption by 15 per cent at delivery and 20 per cent by 2020.

This month, Qatar Airways will take delivery of the first Airbus A350-1000 as launch customer.

Qatar Airways is the national carrier of Qatar. Over 150 destinations are being served worldwide with a fleet of over 200 aircraft.
