The multimillion-dollar investment is funded by Canadian North´s parent organisation, Inuvialuit Development Corporation. When finished, the hangar fulfils all heavy maintenance and manufacturing requirements for the fleet of Boeing 737-200, Boeing 737-300 and Bombardier Dash-8. The 90,000-square foot hangar should help Canadian North to reduce its maintenance costs, as the company will utilize its own people, equipment and facilities. With the new hangar Canadian North aims at diversifying its existing product portfolio of passenger and cargo flights. The carrier wants to offer MRO services to external partners and airlines.

Steve Hankirk, President of Canadian North, said: "Canadian North’s establishment of its own MMRO facility at EIA is a major step forward for both Canadian North and Edmonton. (…) We will now be able to maintain our Boeing 737 and Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft more efficiently, and by offering access to our highly trained team members and well-equipped facility to other airlines, we’ll be helping to position Edmonton as a leading aerospace maintenance hub, stimulating even more economic activity in the region.”

Canadian North is a carrier based in Yellowknife, Canada. The fleet consists of 13 aircraft: 10 Boeing 737-300 and two Boeing 737-200, as well as 3 Bombardier Dash 8-100. The airline that operates passenger and cargo flights to several destinations in the Northwest Territories was founded in September 1989.
