Akademische Fliegergruppe am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie e.V.
The Academic Flight Group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (short:Akaflieg) is a group of students from different course of studies at the KIT. They all have one thing in common: the passion for aviation and flying. Therefore, the goal of this non-commercial organization is to practice research and development in aviation (especially in the field of gliding) on it's own responsibility since its formation in 1928.
In our 90 years of history we managed to develop four unique gliders prototypes and contributed to several innovations. Our fifth prototype is probably the most ambitious project of the academic flight group so far. It is a flying wing, which we call AK-X and is currently being build in our own workshop. Die Akademische Fliegergruppe am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie e.V. (kurz: Akaflieg) ist eine Gruppe von Studierenden aus den verschiedensten Fachrichtungen des KITs die eine gemeinsame Begeisterung und Leidenschaft für die Luftfahrt teilen. Angetrieben durch diese Leidenschaft haben wir uns, seit unserer Gründung im Jahr 1928, als Ziel gesetzt als gemeinnützige Hochschulgruppe Forschung und Entwicklung selbsttätig und eigenverantwortlich im Bereich der Luftfahrt, vor allem im Segelflug, zu betreiben.
In unserer 90 Jahre alten Geschichte können wir auf viele Innovationen und vier selbstgebaute Prototypen zurückblicken. In dieser Tradition arbeiten wir momentan an unserem neusten Projekt, der AK-X, das erste moderne Segelflugzeug in Nurflügel Bauweise.
