This delivery marks the successful completion of two firm order for 20 and 30 aircraft respectively. Aircraft number 50 wears the registration RA-89115 and was named after the Russian painter Vasily Polenov.

Aeroflot´s SSJ100 are configured in a two-class variant. The aircraft can accommodate 87 passengers, with 12 seats in business class and 75 seats in economy class.

Vitaly Saveliev, CEO of Aeroflot, said: “Aeroflot is pleased to welcome its 50th Superjet 100. Earlier this month, at the Eastern Economic Forum, we signed a major aircraft delivery agreement to receive 100 more modern Russian-built SSJ100 aircraft, with President Putin present for the signing ceremony.”

This September, Aeroflot has announced the acquisition of 100 additional Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, in order to boost its regional operations. All 150 Superjets are expected to be in operation until 2026. Aeroflot has furthermore 50 MC-21-300 aircraft from Russian Manufacturer Irkut on order. This aircraft was designed to compete with Western solutions like the Airbus A320 or Boeing´s B737.

Alexander Rubtsov, President of JSC Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC), said: “The partnership between SCAC and Russia’s flag carrier is an invaluable experience that is particularly important to us as we launch a new aircraft. Aeroflot has made a significant contribution to the development of the SSJ100 project. Further cooperation with Aeroflot and the airline’s plans to further expand its fleet of SSJ100 aircraft represent a positive assessment of our work and a sign that we are on the right track.

Initially, Aeroflot signed a purchase agreement for 30 SSJ aircraft in December 2005. In 2011, Aeroflot´s first SSJ100 performed its maiden commercial flight. Then, in July 2017, the Russian flag carrier announced an order for 20 additional SSJ aircraft. This new order shows the airline´s trust in Sukhoi, after the manufacturer earned criticism for its product by Mexican carrier Interjet.

Aeroflot is the flag carrier airline of Russia and the largest carrier in the country. Founded in 1923, Aeroflot has been in operations for 95 years. Its main hub is at Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport. The fleet consists of nearly 250 aircraft, including Airbus A320s, A321s, A330s, Boeing 737s, 777s and Sukhoi Superjets.
