Airlines Air Canada and Qatar Airways sign codeshare agreement

Air Canada has Qatar Airways have announced, that the airlines have signed a codeshare agreement.

Air Canada and Qatar Airways have signed a codeshare agreement, which will see the airlines enhancing their respective travel services. The agreement will be valid from December 15 this year.

With the agreement in place, Qatar Airways customers that travel between Doha and Toronto can enjoy a more seamless travel experience. They can travel from Doha´s worldwide network to Toronto via Hamad International Airport with through one-stop connections.

Air Canada passengers on the other hand will benefit from being able to book flights between Toronto and Doha and onwards to more than 75 destinations. Through this way, the airlines are combining their networks and utilize a better and seamless travel experience.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “We are delighted to secure this strategic codeshare agreement with Air Canada to provide our travellers with a seamless journey to and from Toronto with excellence in state-of-the-art and sustainable aircraft, safety, comfort and onboard service. The agreement will increase choices for thousands of passengers and allows for smooth connectivity to a significant number of new destinations – particularly throughout Africa, Asia and the Middle East. By harnessing our complementary strengths, this agreement will also provide benefits to aid the recovery of international travel.”

In June 2011, Qatar Airways initially started regular passenger operations to Canada. Since then, the carrier has increased its flights to the Country. Now, during the global pandemic, the airline has been working closely with the Government of Canada to temporarily operate three weekly services from Doha to Toronto.

The new strategic partnership with Air Canada underlines the airline´s ambitions to further strengthen its presence in the country. Also, it shows, that Air Canada is willing to offer more customer choices and better travel options.

Air Canada has its main hub at Toronto and bases at Calgary, Montréal and Vancouver. The airline was founded in 1937 and currently operates a fleet of nearly 170 aircraft, including 11 Airbus A220s, 12 A319s, 29 A320s, 15 A321s, 15 A330s, 24 Boeing 737s, 25 777s and 37 787s.

Qatar Airways is the leading airline at Doha Hamad International Airport and was founded in 1993, while commencing operations in 1994. The current fleet consists of nearly 240 aircraft, including two A319s, 29 A329s, three A321s, 23 A330s, 52 A350 XWBs, two Boeing 747-8s, 78 777s and 37 787s.
