Airlines Air France-KLM and Air Europa intend joint venture

Air France-KLM and Air Europe intend to expand their offerings and enhance travel opportunities for their respective customers by concluding a new joint venture agreement. The joint venture, once approved, will affect both airlines’ flights between Europe and Central and South America.

Air France and KLM have cooperated with Air Europa for many years. Currently, the cooperation comprises successful codeshare agreements between and beyond Paris and Amsterdam, as well as Madrid.

“The deepening of our cooperation with Air Europa through a joint venture will provide a strong foundation for us to work even closer together in order to enhance our offer on routes between Europe and Central / South America. We are striving to even increase and improve our current leading role on these markets and offer our joint customers more benefits together with our long-term partner Air Europa” said Frédéric Gagey, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Air France-KLM.

Legal analysis is being conducted by both parties to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Since 2003 Air France and Air Europa have code shared routes within Europe covering 21 routes to date. The code share collaboration between KLM and Air Europa dates to 2002 and currently covers 19 code share routes within Europe. The plans for a joint venture aim at further improving offers for customers and strengthen the airlines’ market position.

Air France-KLM operates hubs at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol, serving 314 destinations in 116 countries.

Air Europa is a Spanish airline based in Mallorca and has its hub in Palma de Mallorca. The airline serves 31 destinations in Spain, South America, the US, Africa and the Middle East.
