Airlines Air Italy announces codeshare agreement with Bulgaria Air

Air Italy and Bulgaria Air have announced, that the airlines have entered into a codeshare partnership.

The codeshare agreement will offer increased connectivity between eight destinations in Italy and the main Bulgarian cities. The partnership has come into effect immediately, flights with codes “IG” and “FB” respectively are bookable now.

Air Italy will place its IG-code on flights between Milan-Malpensa and Sofia, Varna and Burgas. The first flights for these routes are available from March 31, 2019. At the same time, Bulgaria Air will place its FB-code on Air Italy flights between Milan-Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino, Naples, Palermo and Catania, Olbia and Cagliari and Lamezia Terme.

Additionally, an interline commercial agreement was concluded which allows Bulgaria Air passengers to purchase single tickets for travel between Bulgaria and Air Italy destinations to the US, Canada and Africa. All of these long-haul operations will be performed from Milan-Malpensa.

Air Italy Chief Operating Officer, Rossen Dimitrov, said: “The commencement of our partnership with Bulgaria Air is great news for passengers of both airlines. Our customers can now benefit from a new choice for connecting to Bulgaria via Milan Malpensa, from our seven key Italian destinations.

CEO of Bulgaria Air Hristo Todorov added: "It is a great pleasure to announce the new codeshare agreement which is only a step towards Bulgaria Air’s goal to offer passengers the opportunity to travel intercontinentally and connect Bulgarians all over the world. Our urge is to expand our portfolio of destinations continually, and we are very happy that we have found a partner such as Air Italy who had already proven to be a responsible, innovative and progressive air career."

Air Italy is an Italian carrier that is being owned by AQA Holding (51% Alisarda and 49% Qatar Airways). The headquarters are located in Olbia, while the main operating base is at Milan-Malpensa airport. Air Italy was founded in March 2018 and had since then added new domestic and international routes to its portfolio. The current fleet consists of three Boeing 737 MAX, five Boeing 737 NG and five Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

Bulgaria Air is the flag-carrier airline of Bulgaria and has its headquarters at Sofia Airport. The airline was founded back in November 2002 and commenced operations a month later. Focus cities are Burgas and Varna. Currently, Bulgaria Air is operating with two Airbus A319s, three A320s, one Boeing B737-300 and four Embraer E190s.
