With the announcement of its sixth North American destination, Air Italy will operate the same amount of destinations as flag-carrier Alitalia will in 2019. This shows the strong growth ambitions from Air Italy, which of course are reasoned by heavy investments made by Qatar Airways.

Starting May 14, 2019, Air Italy will launch nonstop flights between Milan-Malpensa and Chicago. The carrier seeks to enhance the new westward services, as it has already announced to start flying to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Toronto in the next year.

Air Italy will serve Chicago three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flight will leave Milan at 13:10 and will arrive at Chicago O´Hare International Airport at 18:25.

Air Italy Chief Operating Officer, Rossen Dimitrov said: "Our customers, especially those flying between Italy and the US, now have even more choices, and thanks to our new direct flight from Milan to Chicago, they will be able to experience our superb Italian hospitality and unique on-board service."

"Air Italy is growing rapidly and this latest announcement clearly reflects the importance of the North American market to us. Chicago is famous for music, art, architecture, business, food and sport, and we are extremely confident that it will quickly become a popular destination in our equally fast growing network," Dimitrov added.

In June 2018, Air Italy launched initial North American routes to New York and Miami. The airline is strongly growing, both in the international but also in the domestic sector. This is mainly reasoned by Qatar Airways, which holds majority stakes in the company. Last week, Air Italy started serving Delhi and Mumbai.

All of Air Italy´s long-haul flights will be performed with Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Most of them have previously been flying with Qatar Airways. They are equipped with 24 seats in business class and 228 seats in economy class. In total, 252 passengers can be accommodated.

Air Italy is an Italian airline with headquarters in Olbia. After Alitalia, the carrier is the second largest in Italy and serves over 35 destinations. The airline was founded in February 2018 and commenced operations a month later. The current fleet consists of nine Boeing 737s, including three B737 MAX 8s, one Boeing 767-300 and five Airbus A330-200s.
