With a firm order of three E195-E2 including an option for two additional aircraft of the same model the Spanish regional airline Binter Canarias will not only be the first European customer for this jet but also establish one of the most modern and youngest fleets in Europe. The first E2-jet will arrive in the second half of 2019, the year in which Binter celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The airline headquartered on the island of Grand Canary will invest USD 342 million relying on a banking consortium of Santander, Caixabank, BBVA, Bankia and Banco Sabadell to finance the new equipment. Embraer will configure the aircraft with 132 seats in a single class layout for Binter. The agreement also covers replacement motors, equipment, personnel training and a spare parts warehouse.

“Embraer is proud to welcome Binter to the expanding base of E-Jets operators in Europe,” said Martyn Holmes, Vice President, Europe, Russia & Central Asia, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “Embraer’s E2 family is the quietest, cleanest and most fuel efficient next-generation single-aisle aircraft family in the world. Compared to the regional jets currently utilized by Binter, the E195-E2 will provide greater operational flexibility with more seats, more range and unmatched passenger comfort, with lower operating costs.”

Binter’s goal is to improve the connections between the Canary Islands and international destinations as well as to further push their expansion in Africa.

"We are in the middle of an important economic effort to improve our clients' travel” said Binter’s Vice President, Rodolfo Núñez.

The agreement had been announced at the Farnborough Air Show as a Letter of Intent with an unnamed customer.

Currently, Binter Canarias operates a fleet of 20 ATR 72-500s and ATR 72-600s and 4 Bombardier CRJ1000 leased from Air Nostrum. The regional airline carries 3.4 million passengers per year with 180 flights daily serving 8 islands, 2 national, and 12 international destinations.
