Airlines Boeing delivers first B737 MAX to Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest commercial airline, has taken delivery of the first Boeing B737 MAX 8.

The flag carrier of Ethiopia has taken delivery of the first of 30 ordered Boeing new generation single-aisle aircraft. The jets will be configured with 160 seats in business and economy class. Compared to its current B737-800 aircraft, the jet offers six seats (16 Business, 138 Economy).

With over 100 aircraft, Ethiopian Airlines is the largest carrier in Africa. The carrier operates one of the youngest long-haul fleets with Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner as well as B767 and B777.

The MAX 8 is the first developed variant of the new Boeing 737 program. It is designed to replace the B737-800. Its first commercial flight was operated by Malindo Air in May 2017.
