Airlines China Eastern Airlines unveils subsidiary OTT Airlines

China Eastern Airlines has unveiled a new subsidiary airline. One Two Three Airlines (OTT Airlines) will serve domestic destinations using China-built aircraft.

OTT Airlines will mainly operate China-made aircraft such as the ARJ21 and the C919, who are both manufactured by COMAC. Parent company China Eastern Airline expressed, that the founding of this airline is not entirely based on keeping up the production of the aircraft types, but is also an part of implementing high-quality development into the Chinese market.

It is another step for the generation of new China-built passenger aircraft. China Eastern added, that this founding represents the start of a new journey in the market-oriented operation of China-made aircraft.

OTT Airlines is based at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and will mainly serve the region around the Yangtze River Delta. Other destinations along the coastal regions will follow. China Eastern hopes that the airline will lead to a bettered construction of national and Shanghai international hubs.

Mr. Liu Shaoyong, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of China Eastern Airlines said: "China Eastern Airlines has the determination, confidence and ability to operate China-made aircraft well, and further coordinate various work in epidemic prevention & control and enterprise reform & development, so as to make new and greater contributions to the victory in both epidemic prevention & control and economic & social development."

Mr. Jiang Huaiyu, Director of CAAC East China Regional Administration, said: "The development and growth of China-made commercial aircraft has a long way to go, which requires the unremitting efforts of the manufacturing team, the responsibility bearing of civil aviation transport enterprises, and the strong support of all parties. We hope to give full play to the technological, safety and operational advantages of China Eastern Airlines to establish a linkage mechanism among CAAC, manufacturers and operators and to open a new path for the smooth operation of China-made aircraft."

China Eastern Airlines however has not announced, if OTT Airlines will be a low-cost carrier or a full-service airline. Furthermore, the commencement of operations is yet to be determined. China Eastern Airlines is the launch customer of COMACĀ“s C919 programme and has five aircraft on order with 15 additional purchase rights.
