Airlines Easyjet offers four new routes from London Southend

Easyjet has launched four new routes from its base at London Southend Airport. The first route to Bordeaux was opened with a ceremony.

As low-cost carrier Easyjet is adding a fourth aircraft to its London Southend base, four new routes will be commenced.

Sophie Dekkers, easyJet’s Director of UK Market, said: “Having been at London Southend Airport for over six years, the addition of another aircraft this summer will help us to deliver long term, sustainable growth at the airport whilst providing passengers with a greater range of destinations, all with low fares and great service.”

At first, the service to Bordeaux in South West France was started last week. The destination will be served three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Easyjet aims, to carry out more than 30,000 new passengers on the route.

Furthermore, the popular leisure destinations Prague, Pula and Dubrovnik will be added into Easyjet´s Southend portfolio. With the new routes, Southend Airport is very likely to experience over one million passengers for the first time this year. Easyjet expects, that the airport is on a 25% rise in passenger numbers. The carrier now operates 20 destinations from London Southend.

Glyn Jones, CEO of London Southend Airport, added: “We are now London’s fastest growing airport, and it is great to see that easyJet expect to carry over one million annual passengers to and from the airport for the first time this year. We are expecting great demand for flights to Bordeaux and wish the passengers on this inaugural flight bon voyage!”

Easyjet is a major European low-cost airline with its headquarters located at London Luton Airport. The carrier was founded 23 years ago in March 1995 and currently operates an all-Airbus fleet of over 310 aircraft. Parent company Easyjet flies with 82 Airbus A319s, 90 A320s and two A321s. The airline has eight A320neo and one A321neo in its fleet. Subsidiary airline Easyjet Europe was established in 2017 over the course of the upcoming Brexit. Easyjet has transferred 40 A319s and 73 A320s to Easyjet Europe. Easyjet Switzerland, another subsidiary airline, operates with 10 A319s and 15 A320s.
