The low-cost airline Frontier Airlines has released, that a new crew base will be established at Tampa International Airport. The base is expected to open for flight attendants in May of this year. Then, approximately 250 flight attendants and 140 pilots will be based at Tampa. This number will increase in the coming years, the carrier stated.

Furthermore, the carrier has announced, that there are plans for the future to establish a crew base at Atlanta, too. This base will be located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and could open in late 2021.

Barry Biffle, president and CEO, Frontier Airlines, said: “With our low-cost structure and focus on leisure travel, Frontier is exceptionally well positioned to increase operations this year and continue to expand in these two growing markets [...] We anticipate that nearly 400 Frontier crew members will be based in Tampa by the end of 2021. Atlanta is also on the radar for later this year and those details will become more solidified as things progress.”

With the new crew bases, Frontier Airlines is anticipating the growth in the markets and will be fully prepared once demand is high for flights in these regions. Currently, the airline is offering around 20 nonstop routes from Tampa and more than 15 nonstop flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

“Any time we add a new crew base, it is an indicator of continued growth for our airline and also welcomed news for our crew members, who gain a new home base option, and local communities that reap the economic benefits,” Biffle concluded.

A crew base is used by airlines to support the introduction of new routes and bases with personnel. When opening flights to new destinations, the airline can then leverage from the number of personnel so that operations are as smooth as possible.

Frontier Airlines is a leading low-cost carrier from the United States. The airline is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and operates low fare flights with a fleet of over 100 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. The carrier is also using the state-of-the-art Airbus A320 NEO.

In the future, the airline could take over as many as 150 new Airbus aircraft, which underlines the carrier´s ambitions to grow its business across America.
