Airlines Gulf Air announces 2018 plans

Gulf Air has presented its plans for 2018, including new routes, fleet changes and developments in its on-board products. Furthermore, a new brand identity will be rolled out very soon.

On an event held at Manama, the carrier announced that 8 new routes will be launched this year. In combination with new aircraft deliveries, the carrier will add services to Bangalore and Calicut in India. Furthermore, new flights to Saudi Arabian cities like Abha and Tubuk will be commenced. Also, the carrier is likely to open routes to Alexandria and Sharm El Shaikh in Egypt, to Baku in Azerbaijan and to Casablanca in Morocco.

Compared to 2017, the airline will increase its operations during the Summer-period by 200 more weekly flights.

Gulf Air Chief Executive Officer Mr. Krešimir Kučko said: “It is an honour to share some of our airline’s upcoming developments and to invite a broad spectrum of key stakeholders to be a part of the great journey that lies ahead for both the Kingdom of Bahrain and its national carrier. Our new state of the art fleet and best in class products and service will pave the way for Gulf Air’s growth and expansion.”

Regarding new aircraft deliveries, the carrier stated, that it expects 39 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Before years end, 7 new planes will reach the fleet. 5 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 2 Airbus A320neo aircraft will enter into service this year. The new aircraft will be equipped with new on-board products, including a new business and economy class.

“2018 represents the beginning of a new era for Gulf Air and for the Kingdom of Bahrain. In 2018 and beyond, Gulf Air will challenge the traditional definition of travel, broadening its scope and making it more convenient and appealing for every traveller,” Mr Kučko concluded.

Along with the 2018 strategy, Mr. Kučko revealed, that Gulf Air will present a new corporate identity soon. The carrier designated the upcoming changes as “Gulf Air of tomorrow”. As long-term development, Gulf Air wants to experience ongoing growth in its network in the years between 2019 and 2023.

Gulf Air is the flag carrier of Bahrain and is headquartered in Muharraq (Kingdom of Bahrain). The fleet consist of 28 aircraft, including 16 Airbus A320s, 6 Airbus A321, and 6 Airbus A330s. 41 routes are being served to 42 destinations.
