By signing the purchase deal with manufacturer Airbus, Jet2 has now become the latest Airbus customer, as the airline was solely using Boeing equipment beforehand. This order reflects the airline´s ambitions to modernize, harmonize and grow its fleet of the future.

Philip Meeson, Jet2.com Executive Chairman confirmed: “Jet2.com will be proud to operate the Airbus A321neo in the years ahead.  This aircraft is, in our opinion, the most efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in its class today – it will give our holiday customers a wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable experience as they travel with us for their well-deserved Jet2holiday.”

Jet2 has configured its Airbus A321neos in a single-class layout with 232 seats. Most low-cost operators seek to maximize the passenger number in order to finance low fares. Onboard, an Airbus Airspace cabin will be installed, which features innovative lighting, new seats and larger overhead baggage bins.

As of September 2021, the fleet consists of 82 Boeing 737-800s, of which three are currently parked. Furthermore, seven 737-300s are parked due to the COVID-19 situation. Additionally, Jet2 flies with three active Boeing 757-200s, five more are temporarily parked. In February of last year, the carrier took delivery of a first Airbus A321ceo with sharklets

Regarding the order, Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, said: “We very much welcome Jet2.com’s decision. Traditionally having been operating non fly-by-wire aircraft, we note with great satisfaction that after having tested a couple of leased A321s and run a comprehensive evaluation, Jet2.com is forward looking and investing in modern and future proof Airbus fly-by-wire technology. This is a testimony to Jet2.com’s vision of efficiency, quality, performance and environmentally friendly flying.”

Airbus´ A320 NEO Family is one of the technologically most advanced aircraft families in the world. With high-bypass engines and aerodynamical advantages, a 20 per cent reduction in fuel consumption per seat can be reached.

The A321neo is the larger aircraft type in the family and has an additional range of up to 500 nautical miles or 900 kilometres. Furthermore, it has two tonnes of extra payload, allowing more passengers, baggage or fuel on board. Until Summer 2021, Airbus received over 7,400 firm orders for its A320 NEO family.
