Lufthansa plans to officially release the new design on February 7 but has now published a first picture of a Boeing 747-8 in the new livery.

The former grey underside and the yellow logo background were removed and replaced by a blue colored fin. A new font will be used to present the brand name. According to media reports, Lufthansa plans to repaint all 330 aircraft in the next eight years, while 40 aircraft should get the new livery until the end of 2018. The exchange of all items will take several years.

On its twitter account, Lufthansa has published a first picture of a Boeing 747-8 in a paint shop. German media has reported that the aircraft are painted in Rome.

Over the years, the new Lufthansa has developed several liveries for its brand since its foundation in 1953.

In the early years, Lufthansa painted its aircraft in white colors with silver underside as the Convair CV-340 shows.

In the 1960’s Lufthansa changed its livery and painted its crane in blue on a yellow circle. The entire fin was painted in blue. Additionally, around the windows, a blue line was painted from the rear to the front. The noses were painted in black as this Boeing 737-200 “Bobby” shows.

In 1988, the currently used livery was revealed. The former silver underside was painted in grey and the entire aircraft was painted white except for the fin.

Today over 270 aircraft are painted in the Lufthansa livery. Several aircraft are painted in special liveries, like for example in the colors of Star Alliance or as “Fanhansa Siegerflieger”. One Boeing 747-8 was painted in a retro livery.
