Airlines Malaysia Airlines receives first A350-900

Airbus has delivered the first Airbus A350-900 to Malaysia Airlines Berhad. The airline which leases the A350XWB from Air Lease Corporation (ALC) is now the 17th airline to operate the new-generation wide-body aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines celebrated the delivery of its first A350 aircraft at Kuala Lumpur Airport.

The South East Asian airlines plans to operate six A350-900 which should be leased from ALC. The leasing company ALC has ordered a total of 29 new Airbus aircraft.

The Malaysian carrier will be the first airline offering its passengers a first class with four seats in its A350. Additionally, each A350 has 35 business class and 247 economy seats.

“We are very excited to welcome this new addition to our family. With its technological advancements the A350-900 is an important milestone for us on this journey, helping boost our competitiveness on our long haul flights. The addition of the A350-900 also underlines our commitment to operate a young and modern fleet”, said Malaysian CEO Captain Izham Ismail.

John Plueger, CEO and President of Air Lease Corporation, added: “Our first A350-900 represents a milestone for ALC, and for Malaysia Airlines. We are very confident that the A350-900 will deliver outstanding performance, efficiency, and economics for our airline customers”.

Malaysia Airlines already operates 24 Airbus aircraft including six A380, 15 A330-300 as well as 48 Boeing 737-800.

The new aircraft will be used on Asian short-and medium haul flights in the next months. The daily connection between Kuala Lumpur and London Heathrow should be the first long haul route served by the new A350 beginning in March 2018. The currently used A380’s should be used for charter flights to Medina.
