Airlines Qatar Airways and Iberia expand codeshare partnership

Qatar Airways and Iberia have announced, that they will expand their codeshare agreement.

Qatar Airways customers can connect to destinations in Latin America, including Brazil, Panama, Colombia and Uruguay, while Iberia customers will experience better connectivity to destinations across Asia and the Middle East.

Qatar Airways´ code will be applied on Iberia flights from Madrid to Panama City, Bogotá Medellín (MDE), Montevideo and Santo Domingo. The carrier will further increase its flights from Doha to Madrid to 17 times weekly.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “Expanding the codeshare partnership with Iberia was a natural progression based on our customers’ mutual desire for additional destinations across both networks, as well as our membership in the oneworld alliance. Latin America is a key area of growth for us, and we are delighted to be able to provide access to these new, fast-growing cities for our valued passengers from Qatar, the wider Middle East, South Asia and beyond with seamless connectivity."

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Iberia, Mr. Luis Gallego, added: “We are very happy to announce this expanded codeshare agreement with our oneworld partner, Qatar Airways. With these additional routes, we will be able to provide our customers with greater access to the Middle East and Asia, offering even more choice to both business and leisure travellers.”

Furthermore, members of the Airlines´ frequent flyer programmes Qatar Airways Privilege Club and Iberia Plus will benefit from the partnership.

Qatar Airways is the flag carrier of Qatar and is headquartered in Doha, Qatar. The fleet consists of 211 aircraft, including Airbus A319, A320, A321, A330, A340-600, A350 and A380. The airline also operates with Boeing 777 and 787. Qatar Airways serves 81 countries on 240 routes. 163 destinations are being served. Recently, the carrier announced its 2018 expansion plans.

Iberia is the flag carrier of Spain and has its main operational base at Madrid-Barajas. The airline is part of the International Airlines Group, in the Oneworld alliance, and has 3 subsidiaries: Iberia Regional, Iberia Cargo and Iberia Express. Iberia´s mainline operates with an all-Airbus fleet, including A319, A320, A321, A330 and A340 aircraft.
