After SAX had stopped operations due to the suspension of the airline’s AOC in May of this year, the carrier has interrogated all aspects of operations to receive the reinstatement of their Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) as well as Aircraft Maintenance Organisation (AMO). The airline will resume flights in August after both licences have be re-issued by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).

Most of the fleet have already received Certificates of Airworthiness and the remaining fleet is expected to be certified soon.

“We are delighted that we have now satisfied the concerns that the regulator had leading to our temporary grounding at the end of May this year. This has paved the way for us to prudently and incrementally reintroduce our flights as from August 23, 2018,” SAX Interim CEO, Siza Mzimela said. “We would like to thank all our valued customers and loyal staff for bearing with us while we were addressing the regulators operational requirements,” she added.

South African Express is intending to come back stronger and more focused and is determined to set new industry standards for safety, product quality and customer service, the airline stated.

SAX took to the skies in 1994. The African regional airline has a route network spanning major local and regional cities. The domestic and regional passenger and cargo carrier provides seamless connectivity between small cities and major economic hubs. It has not been confirmed which of the 24 aircraft in the airline’s fleet have been certified for airworthiness.
