Airlines Spirit Airlines announces new Orlando crew base

Low-Cost carrier Spirit Airlines has announced a new crew base at Orlando International Airport. 12 new routes will be introduced.

The new crew base will see Spirit Airlines adding 150 new crewmembers at the start of operations in December 2018. In the coming months, the low-cost carrier expects hundreds of more inflight position to its Orlando base.

With the announcement of the new crew base, the airline further commits to boost its international services from Orlando Airport. The massive international expansion will see both flight attendants and pilots to work out of Orlando.

Bob Fornaro, Spirit Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer stated: “Orlando is the perfect location for our new crew base and our international expansion [...] We’ve served more than 22 million Guests in our 25 years in Orlando. We’re excited to continue our historic expansion here and to create hundreds of jobs in the community.”

Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority added: "Spirit Airlines’ growth in the Central Florida region is evident with their increased domestic and international flight schedules. Now, with the addition of a Spirit crew base at Orlando International Airport, they further solidify their commitment to our community.”

Starting October 2018, Spirit will start flying to Aguadilla, Guatemala City and Panama City and Santo Domingo. Then, San Pedro Sula, San José and San Salvador will be added to the international route portfolio at Orlando. In November 2018, routes to Bogota, St. Thomas, Medellin, Cartagena and Myrtle Beach will be added.

Spirit Airlines is a U.S. - based ultra-low-cost carrier. The airline was initially founded in 1983 as Charter One. Headquarters are in Florida and operating bases at Atlanta, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas and Orlando. Spirit Airline´s fleet consists of 122 Airbus aircraft, including 31 A319s, 61 A320s and 30 A321s.
