Airlines SunExpress continues growth in summer 2019

Leisure carrier SunExpress has announced the summer flight schedule for 2019, which sees new routes being added to the network.

As being a joint venture between Germany´s Lufthansa and Turkey´s Turkish airlines, SunExpress will continue to put its focus on connecting German with Turkish cities. The airline also serves leisure destinations in other countries. For 2019, the network will consist of 90 destinations in 30 countries.

From various German cities, SunExpress will increase frequencies to Hurghada in Egypt. Tunisia will be back in the network of the carrier as well. Moreover, Beirut will be added for the very first time.

„With our route network and capacity, we are optimally prepared for summer 2019 and offer our passengers a wide range of travel options to popular hot water destinations on medium-haul routes,“ comments Jens Bischof, CEO of SunExpress.

The most important German airports for SunExpress are Düsseldorf, Cologne-Bonn and Frankfurt. Also, Swiss cities like Basel and Zurich will see new daily connections. The additional presence in various European countries underlines the growth ambition of the German-Turkish conglomerate.

Especially Turkey will see capacity boosts for the upcoming summer. Hotspots at the Turkish Riviera like Aegean and Anatolia will see an increase in capacity of 15 percent. Next summer, SunExpress will take-off from 18 airports in Germany.

Over the course of the summer flight schedule, SunExpress is expected to transport a total of 3.5 million passengers to Antalya alone. 400,000 seats will be added on connections to Izmir, bringing the total of offered seats to 1.6 million.

Bischof added: “We are particularly pleased about the high demand for holidays in Turkey and react with the largest capacity increase in our company’s history. We will be operation with a total of 80 jets, within our route network in 2019 – more than ever before.”

Currently, SunExpress operates with 29 Boeing 737-800s. German subsidiary SunExpress Deutschland with twelve 737-800s. SunExpress is based at Antalya, Turkey and serves several destinations throughout Europe. The carrier operates low-cost flights for holiday makers.
