Airlines SymartLynx seeks to start North America operations
In its 2017 Summary report, charter operator SmartLynx announced, that it plans to start operations from North America and Canada.
The carrier stated, that it is working intensively on developing a business in North America and Canada. SmartLynx´ plan is to offer charter flights from Canada to the Caribbean Islands and Latin America.
Furthermore, the airline aims to become the first choice for medium-range charter flights in Europe. To realize its strategic plan, SmartLynx seeks to further expand its fleet.
In the report, SmartLynx presented its numbers for the foregone year. The carrier´s turnover increased by 21% to EUR 131.5 million, while carrying 2.5 million passengers.
Zygimantas Surintas, SmartLynx Airlines CEO, confirmed: “In 2017, we made 15,933 flights from 25 base airports in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, which represents 46,157 block hours [...] Over the last few years, the number of passengers travelling with SmartLynx has constantly increased – in 2017 it reached 2.5 million, which is 31.6 % more than in 2016 and 56.3% more than in 2015.”
SmartLynx is an ACMI and charter operator, based and headquartered in Latvia. The charter flights represent 42% of the company´s business activities. Moreover, the airline also wet leases aircraft to customers such as Easyjet. Wet leases represent 56% of the company´s activities.
SmartLynx Airlines operates with seven Airbus A320, and two Airbus A321 aircraft. Its subsidiary SmartLynx Airlines Estonia operates with six Airbus A320.
