According to the carrier’s website, TAROM said the aircraft must be equipped with two engines and must be current generation aircraft with the lowest possible fuel cost per trip and/or per seat. TAROM is eyeing a capacity of 225 and 270 seats in two- or three-class configuration with a minimum range of 5,200 nautical miles.

The carrier is also requesting aircraft that are manufactured no earlier than 2012 with the lowest possible maintenance cost and days out of service. The aircraft should also feature inflight entertainment, Wi-Fi and leather seats. The widebodies are requested to be equipped with a crew rest area and must be EASA/FAA compliant.

TAROM operates a mixed fleet of 4 Airbus A318, 4 Boeing 737-300, 4 Boeing 737-700, 2 Boeing 737-800, 7 ATR 42-500 and 2 ATR 72-500. The airline's flights to the USA ceased in 2003 and are now operated under a codeshare agreement with Air France via Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.
