The airline is now eligible to formally operate as an airline. Operations will be commenced with a fleet of five Airbus A320 aircraft. Palma de Mallorca is an operational base for the airline.

Christoph Debus, Chief Airline Officer Thomas Cook Group, said: "The new AOC for Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics is an important step for our whole Group Airline [...] In the highly competitive short and medium haul market we will gain an advantage with greater operational flexibility at a competitive cost. At the same point we can increase our customer experience by maintaining closer control over the quality and product on board."

The Spanish subsidiary of the British Thomas Cook Group is initially set to provide flights in order to support the group´s other airlines. To better the integration, the Board of Directors includes members from Thomas Cook Group Airlines.

Over the summer, the five Airbus A320 aircraft will take over short and medium-haul flights for Thomas Cooks´ German airline Condor. Currently, Condor has to lease third party aircraft.

Recently, the Group announced, that its other new airline Thomas Cook Aviation has received a German AOC, following the collapse of Air Berlin.
