Airlines Vueling to start hub in Vienna
Spanish Low-Cost carrier Vueling is likely to start low-cost operations from Vienna. There will be offered 14 destinations.
According to aviation media, a subsidiary airline named Anisec Luftfahrt GmbH was founded by Vueling and the International Airlines Group (IAG). However, it is expected, that the airline will fly under the Vueling Austria brand.
A few months back, the IAG group established an airline subsidiary with Vueling, which was set to take over the insolvent carrier Niki. As this plan did not work out for several reasons, IAG and Vueling are now starting a second attempt with Anisec. Originally, Anisec Luftfahrt GmbH was founded in November 2017 and currently owns an office near Vienna Airport. If the Niki-takeover would have succeeded, Vueling said that it planned to base up to eight Airbus A320 aircraft at Vienna. How many aircraft Vueling Austria will now station at the airport is yet to be announced.
Operations are to commence mid-July 2018. Vueling Austria is set to offer 14 European destinations to its passengers, with most of them being holiday destinations.
Possible new routes from Vienna are:
Barcelona with 14 flights per week
London-Gatwick with 14 flights per week
Mailand-Malpensa with 14 flights per week
Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 14 flights per week
Palma with 7 flights per week
Venedig with 7 flights per week
Dubrovnik with 4 flights per week
Olbia with 3 flights per week
Ibiza with 3 flights per week
Bilbao with 3 flights per week
Larnaca with 3 flights per week
Malaga with 3 flights per week
Alicante with 2 flights per week
Valencia with 2 flights per week
With the new routes, Vueling Austria hopes to further encourage the competition in Vienna. All new destinations are already being offered by other airlines. After Niki filed for insolvency, low-cost carrier Wizz Air opened a new base at Vienna Airport this April, offering a total of 30 destinations in 22 countries.
Vueling is a Spanish low-cost carrier, based and headquartered at Barcelona-El Prat Airport. Its fleet consists of 110 Airbus aircraft, including five Airbus A319s, 90 Airbus A320s and 15 Airbus A321s. The carrier has 47 Airbus A320neo on order. Vueling serves 133 destinations in 36 countries.
The carrier is part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), which has its headquarters in the United Kingdom. IAG was founded in 2011 during a merger agreement between British Airways and Iberia. Airlines in the group are Aer Lingus, British Airways, IAG Cargo, Iberia, LEVEL and Vueling. Qatar Airways holds a 20.01% stake in the group.
