The Norwegian airline Widerøe has celebrated its inaugural flight from Hamburg to Bergen. The route will be served three times a week with one of the airline’s modern 114-seat E190-E2 aircraft. In April 2018 the carrier was the first airline in the world to commercially fly Embraer's second-generation jet, E190-E2.

Embraer’s new generation E190-E2 is designed as a new, environmentally friendly generation of aircraft. With a state-of-the-art engine technology, a Pratt & Whitney 1919G Geared turbofan, its fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are lower than comparably sized aircraft. Lower noise levels and extra-large cabin bins for carry-on luggage as well as a 2+2 seat configuration add to passenger comfort. Widerøe has set itself the target of becoming one of the world’s most environmentally friendly airlines and has another 3 E190-E2 on order.

Hamburg Airport is happy to welcome the airline to Hamburg: “Bergen is an attractive destination for anyone travelling to Scandinavia,” says Dr. Joergen Kearsley, Head of Aviation Marketing at Hamburg Airport. “Whether it’s the destination for your city trip, a stop on a regional tour or the starting point of a cruise, Bergen is a city of multifaceted attractions. So, we are delighted by Widerøe’s commitment and warmly welcome the airline to Hamburg.”

Widerøe is the largest regional airline operating flights in the Nordic countries. Beside its new Embraer aircraft the company operates a fleet of 43 Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft (100-400).
