Airlines Wizz Air announces Liverpool expansion to Romania

Low-Cost airline Wizz Air has announced, that it will open three new routes from Liverpool Airport to Romania.

The Hungarian carrier will start flying from Liverpool´s John Lennon Airport to the Romanian cities of Cluji, Bucharest and Iași. Routes are to commence from the end of October 2018. This move underlines the carrier´s intention to grow in both countries

Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, will be served three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Cluj will be served on Mondays and Fridays, while Iași will also be connected to Liverpool on Mondays and Fridays.

Wizz Air Chief Corporate Officer, Owain Jones, commented: “Wizz Air’s investment in the UK continued as we bring new flights to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, increasing our network of destinations for our customers in the North West to include some of Romania’s most historic and lively destinations and which offer the perfect choice for a city break with a difference and access to Romania’s beautiful countryside."

The carrier´s aim is to open affordable opportunities for customers in the north-west of England to explore seven destinations in Romania. Altogether, Wizz Air now offers 17 UK routes from the UK to Romania. It has also established a dedicated subsidiary airline, Wizz Air UK. Eight Airbus aircraft are currently stationed in the UK.

With the new routes announced, Wizz Air offers 17 weekly flights from Liverpool Airport. This reflects in the availability of 290,000 seats in 2019, which would be a nearly 17% growth compared to 2018. Moreover, the new routes underline the carrier´s intent to further encourage the tourism, aviation industries and hospitality in both countries.

Wizz Air is a low-cost carrier, headquartered in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in September 2003 and currently flies an all-Airbus fleet with 104 aircraft. The fleet consists of 72 Airbus A320s and 32 Airbus A321 aircraft. A subsidiary in the UK was established in 2018.
