Airlines Wizz Air announces new base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport

Low-Cost carrier Wizz Air has announced a new operational base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Wizz Air, one of the largest low-cost carriers in Europe, has announced the opening of a new operational base at Doncaster Sheffield Airport in the United Kingdom. This base is set to become the second within the UK after London Luton.

At Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Wizz Air is expected to allocate one aircraft to add to the existing 10 routes from the airport. In total, the Yorkshire airport will see seven new routes being opened. Flights are expected to start in late October 2020.

Wizz Air will fly from Doncaster Sheffield to Alicante three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, to Malaga on Mondays and Fridays, to Larnaca on Wednesdays and Sundays, to Lublin on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, to Kosice and Faro on Mondays and Fridays, and to Suceava on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Robert Hough, Chairman of Doncaster Sheffield Airport added: “We are delighted to bring more ultra-low fares to DSA, to these popular destinations loved by our customers and served by an airline who pride themselves on providing affordable travel, with an excellent reputation. With strong performance there is now a real possibility for the base to grow from one aircraft initially to a multi aircraft base further broadening the range of routes available.”

By creating this new base at Doncaster Sheffield, Wizz Air is increasing the annual capacity by 150,000 seats and is furthermore strengthening the local industry by adding new jobs in these difficult circumstances. Wizz Air has announced, that 36 direct and 110 indirect jobs will be created in the Doncaster area.

Wizz Air is a low-cost carrier from Europe, which was initially founded in June 2003. Wizz Air has subsidiaries in Bulgaria, the UK, Ukraine and soon Abu Dhabi. Together, the fleet consists of 75 Airbus A320s and 51 A321s. Of the aircraft, Wizz Air is operating three A320neos and 10 A321neos.
