Wizz Air is one of Europe´s fastest growing low-cost carriers. It has now reached a further milestone, the delivery of its 100th aircraft. During a ceremony held in Budapest, the aircraft was presented wearing a special livery. The livery reflects the airline´s achievement and its strong partnership with Airbus.

Hungary’s biggest airline operates with an all-Airbus fleet. The carrier said, that the aircraft family contains the most suitable aircraft for its operations in regards of efficiency and operational costs. Wizz Air calls the A321 game changing and seeks to offer that 75% of all seats will be flown on an Airbus A321.

In the first quarter of 2019, Wizz Air expects to take delivery of its first A320neo family aircraft. The carrier has 72 Airbus A328neo and 184 A321neo on order. These aircraft will be powered by high bypass-ratio Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines, who are more efficient and will deliver a minimum 16% fuel burn improvement.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said: “When we started Wizz Air in 2004, we knew that the airline would change people’s lives, making flying affordable for more people than ever before.  Our absolute focus on achieving the lowest possible operating cost and, so, provide the lowest fares to market have seen Wizz Air become a 100-aircraft airline just 14 years after our first flight. Even more impressive growth now lies ahead, as we look forward to the delivery of the game changing Airbus A320neo family technology in early 2019. With the continuing support of our long-term partners Airbus and Pratt & Whitney, as well as our recently awarded investment grade credit ratings, we will drive towards our goals of being the undisputed cost leader and one of the top 5 airlines in Europe, providing seamless and unique travel opportunities at the lowest prices to even more passengers.”

“Wizz Air started to operate its first Airbus aircraft 14 years ago. Today WIZZ has become a true success story, and we are proud to have played a major role in this journey, providing the most efficient aircraft with the lowest operating costs combined with unbeatable comfort in the widest single aisle cabin in the skies,” added Eric Schulz, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer.

14 years ago, Wizz Air started commercial operations. During this airline has transported over 155 million passengers in total and aims to become one of the leading low-cost carriers in Europe. Over this course, Wizz Air seeks to further expand its fleet with additional aircraft and network expansions. To date, the carrier has 268 new aircraft on order and expects to receive all aircraft by 2026. The fleet would then measure 300 aircraft in total. Wizz Air hopes to carry 100 million passengers a year.

Recently, Wizz Air established an operational base at Vienna. Shortly after the opening, the carrier announced further expansion plans.

Wizz Air is a low-cost carrier based and headquartered in Budapest, Hungary. The carrier operates a fleet of 100 Airbus family aircraft, including 30 Airbus A321s and 70 Airbus A320ceos.
