Low-cost carrier Easyjet has suspended all flights to Thessaloniki Airport after the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) closed the main runway for maintenance work. As booth runways (10/28, 16/34) are currently closed, the taxiway F will be used as a runway until March 2018. HCAA has certified the use of the taxiway F as the airport’s runway.

Easyjet announced in a statement, that “however the risks associated with the proposed temporary operations are not acceptable to Easyjet.” Therefor the carrier will handle all flights via the alternative airport Kavala which is around 150 kilometers away from Thessaloniki. Easyjet will provide a coach service to transport passengers between the two cities.

Easyjet connects Thessaloniki with Berlin-Schönefeld, Manchester, London-Gatwick and Basel/Mulhouse.

Since 2015, Fraport Greece is the official operator of Thessaloniki Airport. In March 2017 the operator announced an investment plan to modernize all 14 regional airports taken over by Fraport Greece.
