Airports European airports welcomed a record in 2016

European airport passenger traffic breaks the 2 billion mark in 2016 for the first time. The European Airports Council International (ACI) reports an increase in passenger volume by 5,1% compared to 2015.

The busiest airports in Europe are London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle and new on third position Amsterdam Schiphol. Main capacity growth came by the increase of low cost operations at medium-sized European airports.

Airports like Cologne/Bonn, Barcelona, Dublin, Manchester, Budapest and Krakow reported an increase in passenger traffic with more than 10%. Keflavik (+40%), Berlin-Schönefeld (+36%) and Sofia (+21%) were some of the fastest growing airports in Europe in the last year. With an increase of around 4% ACI reports the strongest growth for air cargo since 2010.
