A power failure at the world’s busiest airport on Sunday disrupted operations forcing airlines to cancel more than 1150 flights.

Several flights were diverted to other airports and thousands of travelers stranded at the airport. Georgia Power, the utility provider for the airport, stated on Sunday that the failure, which occurred on 1 p.m., might have been caused by a fire in an underground electrical facility. The fire also damaged the backup system which should provide power to the airport in emergencies. At 1 a.m. on Monday, Hartsfield airport management tweeted that the power has been restored on all concourses and more than 5000 meals will be delivered to passengers.
