From March 25, 2018, Ryanair will close the base. The airline has stationed one aircraft at the airport. After the closure, services to Milan and Bucharest will be continued.

According to Ryanair, the close-down results in a poor financial performance. With demands for Ryanair aircraft rising at other airports in Europe, the carrier has decided to focus on more important routes, confirmed David O´Brien, Chief Commercial Officer at Ryanair in the statement.

Timisoara airport is located in the western part of Romania, close to the borders of Hungary and Serbia. In 2017, the airport handled over 1,621,000 million passengers. At the moment, Wizzair and Ryanair are the leading airlines at the airport. Moreover, Lufthansa offers connections to Frankfurt and Munich, while TAROM operates a domestic route to Romania´s capital Bucharest. In the summer flight schedule, airlines such as Air Bucharest, AtlasGlobal, Blue Air, Corendon and Freebird Airlines fly to holiday destinations, preferably in Turkey.

Recently, Ryanair has announced to reduce its activity at Frankfurt-Hahn. Due to increased competition in the low-cost sector, the airline wants to focus more on Frankfurt´s main airport FRA. On the other hand, the carrier recently said that it will start 15 new routes in Northern Ireland.

Ryanair is a major low-cost airline, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. With over 400 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the carrier operates flights to 207 destinations in 33 countries.
