The whole facility is said to include up to 325,160m2 (3.5 million square feet). The state-of-the-art logistics and manufacturing space will have supporting infrastructure and is expected to provide a total of 5,400 new jobs once fully operational.

In the long term, the project could have a cumulative economic impact of up to €1,7 billion, said the airport. If the project is being realized, the whole Doncaster and wider Sheffield City Region will benefit from the new cargo facility.

Catalyst of the new development is the continued growth in e-commerce. The growing market is in need for large scale logistics and manufacturing sites.

Robert Hough, Chairman of Peel Airports said: “This proposed development is further evidence of our delivering on our Vision for DSA and Aero Centre Yorkshire [...] It will be an integral part of the aviation led economic cluster we are developing around our fast growing Airport, with Aero Centre Yorkshire acting as one of the main drivers of the Sheffield City Region’s developing Global Innovation Corridor."

According to the airport, the development could be fully occupied by 2025 and is expected to create at least 230 jobs during the construction period. Moreover, the development is seen as part of the airport´s wider development plan, which sees cargo playing an important role.

The airport of Doncaster hopes to attract further global brands and companies to continue their growth at the airport. Arguments are direct motorway access, high quality land and a vibrant regional skill base. Doncaster Sheffield Airport is located in the North-Western part of England, between the cities of Leeds, Sheffield and Hull.

In 2017, Doncaster Airport handled over 1,335,000 passengers with 17,435 aircraft movements. Owner of the airport is the Peel Group. The airport was opened in April 2005 and has a single asphalt runway.
