Freight Delta Cargo and Korean Air announce airfreight Joint Venture

Delta Air Lines Cargo and Korean Air Cargo have announced, that the companies are launching a new cargo cooperation.

With the cooperation, both Delta and Korean Air hope to offer cargo services across the network in the trans-Pacific market. Recently, the two airlines implemented their trans-Pacific Joint Venture (JV) partnership.

The JV opens new routes on trans-Pacific connections. In 2017, the airlines carried a total of 268 million tons of belly cargo on these routes. Now, customers are able to use both networks seamlessly to transport their freight. This expanded and combined network will include more than 290 destinations in the American continents and more than 80 in Asia.

On the routes, a diverse range of different cargo products is being transported. Shipments from Asia to the United States mostly contain automobile parts, mobile phones and other electronics. In the reverse direction, perishables, semi-conductor production facilities and e-commerce shipments are being transported.

Shawn Cole, Delta’s Vice President – Cargo said: “The Delta and Korean Air JV means increased joint belly cargo capacity across the trans-Pacific as well as future co-location of key facilities, world-class reliability and the industry’s best customer service [...] The partnership also means a host of new destinations with commercial and logistics solutions across Asia and North America for these important markets.”

Samsug Noh, Senior Vice President, Head of Cargo Business Division, Korean Air added: “We are excited to partner with Delta to create an unrivalled air cargo network across North America and Asia. This is bolstered by Korean Air’s leading trans-Pacific air freight network, as well as Delta’s nationwide schedule and sales network within the U.S.”

Delta Air Lines and Korean Air have been working together before. The airlines were founding members of the SkyTeam airline alliance. Delta cargo´s network reaches more than 310 destinations in 54 countries, Korean Air Cargos 123 cities in 43 countries.
