Starting June 8, 2018, Emirates SkyCargo will fly from Dubai to London Stansted. In October, the Edinburgh route will be launched. The new routes add to the carrier´s portfolio of 155 worldwide, and six already existing UK-destinations.

Emirates SkyCargo seeks to further gear up the trade between the UK and the rest of the word. A Boeing 777-300ER will be used over the course of daily services on both routes. Per flight, 20 tonnes of cargo capacity will be available. Altogether, this translates into over 500 additional tonnes per week.

The new routes will help the UK market to grow its exports and imports. At the moment, Emirates SkyCargo offers a weekly UK cargo capacity of over 2000 tonnes on over 120 passenger flights and two freighter flights. The carrier said, that since 2014 it has transported 600,000 tonnes of cargo through its six existing gateways in the UK.

The carrier also focuses on transporting pharmaceutical cargo. In a statement, the airline said: “Emirates SkyCargo has seen a robust growth in the transport of pharma out of the UK- in particular from London, Manchester and Newcastle- following the launch of Emirates Pharma, its specialised transportation solution for temperature sensitive pharma cargo. Emirates SkyCargo works with leading pharma manufacturers based in the UK to transport a wide variety of pharmaceuticals ranging from vaccines to anaesthetics, from cancer drugs to medication for diabetes. In 2017, the air cargo carrier transported over 2.8 million kilos of pharma cargo out of the UK to various destinations in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, East and South East Asia and Australasia.”

The last year´s 150,000 tonnes of freight into the UK comprised fruits originating in South Asia, green beans from Kenia, raw materials or machinery for engineering. So, the new cargo services will bring a wide range of imports to the UK from all over the world.

Emirates SkyCargo is one of the world´s largest international cargo airlines. Its fleet consists of 14 freighter aircraft, including 13 Boeing 777Fs and one Boeing 747-400F. The airline is a subsidiary of Emirates Airline, which operates with over 250 widebody aircraft. Emirates serves 50 destinations with its cargo aircraft and offers cargo capacity on over 100 Emirates passenger routes.
