Freight Emirates SkyCargo opens trade link to South America

Emirates SkyCargo has announced, that it will add Santiago to its network of cargo destinations.

From July 5th, 2018, Emirates SkyCargo will start serving the capital city of Chile. Santiago will be the operator´s sixth destination in South America, after Sao Paulo, Ciudad del Este, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Viracopos.

Boeing 777-200LR aircraft will operate on the route, offering customers up to 15 tonnes of cargo capacity. The new service offers flight connections for cargo to destinations in the Middle East, Russia, Dubai or East Asia.

In a statement, Emirates SkyCargo wrote: “With the launch of its services to Santiago, Emirates SkyCargo will be able to facilitate Chilean exports of salmon and other perishables to destinations on its global network. Chile is the world’s second largest producer of farmed salmon and exports of salmon from the country were valued at over US$ 4.6 billion in the year 2017."

Emirates SkyCargo has said, that the main import commodities into Santiago are expected to be e-commerce products from Asia.

In 2017, the operator shipped a total of 48,000 tonnes of cargo to and from South America. The network offers customers good connectivity and helps local businesses.

Emirates´ subsidiary SkyCargo operates with a freighter fleet of 14 Boeing B777-Fs and one B747F. Emirates mainline operates with 268 widebody aircraft. SkyCargo commenced operations in October 1985 and has its headquarters at Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
