Freight Lufthansa Cargo and China Post announce cooperation

Lufthansa Cargo and China Post Group Corporation have announced, that both companies have entered into a strategic cooperation.

The cooperation between Lufthansa Cargo and China Post is seen by both companies as the foundation of what will become a strategic collaboration for the future. During an event at Beijing, Li Xiong, Vice President of China Post Group Corporation and Peter Gerber, CEO and chairman of the executive board of Lufthansa Cargo, signed the agreement.

Initially, the cooperation has a weekly scope of the cargo capacity of approximately one Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft on the route between Shanghai (PVG) and Frankfurt (FRA). The consolidated freight operation will strengthen the e-Commerce business between China and Europe.

Li Xiong said: “Under the concept of the “Joint Freight Operation”, the two sides have reached a further consensus on capacity agreement this time. We will jointly build a more stabilized and comprehensive channel of air mail transportation connecting China and Europe.”

Peter Gerber added: “We are very pleased that the excellent collaboration with China Post, which has been going on for many years, is now even gaining new quality within the framework of a strategic cooperation. It also reflects the growing importance of the cross border eCommerce market. Together, we will be able to achieve even more for our joint customers on one of the world's most important trade lanes.”

Lufthansa Cargo and China Post have been working together in the past, especially in Chinese markets with the focus on cities like Guangzhou and Beijing. The new cooperation is said to be the beginning of the collaborative expansion between the companies.

Both parties hope to reduce transportation times, to furthermore develop the digitalization and to improve the overall quality of their products.

As German cargo airline, Lufthansa Cargo is headquartered at Frankfurt. The airline is a fully owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group and was initially founded in 1977 as German Cargo. In 1993, the carrier commenced operations as Lufthansa Cargo. Nowadays, the operator serves 57 worldwide destinations with a fleet of 12 McDonnell Douglas MD-11 Freighters and five Boeing 777 Freighters.

China Post Group Corporation is a large state-owned company, which operates various postal services. It implements commercial operations towards competitive postal services and works both on national and international markets.
