Due to the capped trade links, the state of Qatar has to boost it´s imports. This is reflected in the ongoing growth of the national cargo carrier, Qatar Airways Cargo. Recently, Qatar Airways Cargo welcomed it´s first Boeing 747-8 Freighter and it´s 13th Boeing 777 Freighter, which takes the overall fleet size to 22 aircraft. The Gulf carrier operates an additional fleet of eight Airbus A330 Freighters.

The expansion of Qatar Airways Cargo continues at the Doha hub, where new staff was hired, and new cargo facilities were build up. Qatar Airways Cargo has ordered additional 8 A330 Freighter, 3 Boeing 777 Freighter and one more Boeing 747-8 Freighter.

Qatar Airways Chief Officer Cargo, Mr. Ulrich Ogiermann, said: “We are excited to take delivery of the newest freighter just days after our first Boeing 747-8F nose loader freighter joined the fleet, and at a time when we are increasing our capacity and frequencies as part of our network expansion strategy. The new freighters will be deployed on long haul routes in scheduled services and will further boost QR Charter services, allowing us to provide bespoke air charter services for various industries, including the industrial and oil and gas sectors.”

Qatar Airways Cargo received delivery of its first Boeing 777 freighter in 2010, and today the cargo carrier operates on long-haul routes to the Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific and select destinations in Africa. With a payload capacity of more than 100 metric tonnes, the Boeing 777F is capable of flying 9,070 km.

Qatar Airways´ mainline records increased expansion too, since many airlines suspended their operations to Doha during the Gulf-crisis. The airline will be adding new routes to its portfolio in 2017 and 2018, including St. Petersburg (Russia), Cardiff (UK) and Canberra (Australia). The increasing demand for Asian destinations leads to new services from Doha to Penang (Malaysia), Krabi and Chian Mai (Thailand), as well as to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi (Vietnam).

Qatar Airways is the national carrier of Qatar and serves more than 150 destinations worldwide. The fleet measures 200 aircraft.
