Over the course of the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS 2021, held in Zhukovsky, Russia, a delegation of Volga-Dnepr group has visited the MC-21-300 aircraft, the new-generational passenger aircraft from Russia, to evaluate a possible freighter version.

The delegation was led by Chairman of the Board, Alexey Isaykin, who pitched that the group representatives have market trust in growing cargo capacity for the future. This could justify a possible new variant of the aircraft.

“Volga-Dnepr Group representatives have marked the extended fuselage of the new place, advanced airframe systems which were developed by the leading Russian and foreign manufacturers and up-to-date technologies enabling reduction of operational costs,“ the group released.

During the visit, both companies discussed to what extend the possibility of the production of a freighter version would be realistic.

“Amid the capacity constraints, emerging demand for freighters and increase of cargo volumes worldwide Irkut Corporation is in favorable position to commence the freighter program. Volga-Dnepr Group might become the possible launch customer of the MC-21-200 freighter version,“ Volga-Dnepr wrote.

Irkut Corporation is a Russian aircraft manufacturer and is going to manufacturer the MC-21 is different versions between 150 and 211 passenger seats. There are many freight options from other manufacturers on the market, such as the Boeing 737-800BCF or Airbus A321P2F. But with this meeting Volga-Dnepr choses to bring the Russian manufacturer toward a more diverse aircraft portfolio, that could attract customers from other countries as well.
