Helicopters AW109 receives EASA certification

Leonardo helicopters has announced, that the AW109 Trekker helicopter has received its type certification by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The milestone marks Leonardo´s entry in the light twin-engine helicopter market. Deliveries will start in the first quarter of 2018. To date, over 40 aircraft are ordered.

The AW 109 Trekker is based on the AW109/Grand and features a state-of-the-art glass cockpit, skid landing gear and avionics, which will show only necessary information to reduce the pilot´s workload under challenging conditions. Characteristics of the aircraft are manoeuvrability, robustness, safety, productivity and performance. The aircraft is capable of single pilot operations.

Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207C turbine engines provide the power for the aircraft. The cabin is the same size as in the AW109/Grand and can seat up to 6 passengers. Other configurations allow two stretchers, while there is still room for two medical attendants. Furthermore, the aircraft includes a crash resistant fuel system, guaranteed performance under hot and high conditions and a 30 minutes run-dry gearbox. For special missions, a cargo hook, searchlights, loudspeakers, a FLIR camera and other emergency equipment is available.

The AW109 Trekker can be used for EMS, SAR, law enforcement, surveillance, passenger transport, utility and government duties.
