Airbus Helicopters and Japan Coast Guards (JCG) have signed a purchase agreement, which sees two H225 helicopters to join the operator´s growing fleet. JCG is currently the largest Super Puma operator in the country and this latest order underlines the satisfaction JCG has with the aircraft type.

In February this year, Japan Coast Guards received their latest H225 Super Puma Helicopter from Airbus. Now, the H225 fleet is 10 airframes strong and will be growing to 15 with this latest purchase agreement.

Guillaume Leprince, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan, said: “From the first Super Puma delivery nearly 30 years ago to the latest H225 orders, we greatly appreciate Japan Coast Guard’s continued trust in our products and services […] This repeat H225 order reinforces the aircraft’s position as a reference in SAR operations and security enforcement. We are proud of how the deployment of the agency’s fleet has ensured mission success throughout the years. Airbus will continue to ensure the fleet’s high availability, in support of the agency’s safe operations.”

As teased by Leprince, JCG is mainly using their H225s for Search and Rescue (SAR) and security enforcement missions. Also, the aircraft can be used in territorial coastal activities and disaster relief missions throughout the country.

To keep operations a smooth and cost efficient as possible, JCG has partnered with Airbus and has signed the manufacturer´s HCare Smart full-by-the-hour material support. This allows JCG to focus on its flight operations, as Airbus manages its assets.

Regarding its helicopter, Airbus stated: “Offering the industry’s best range, speed, payload and reliability in the 11-ton-category twin-engine rotorcraft, the H225 is the latest member of Airbus Helicopters’ Super Puma family that has accumulated more than 5.7 million flight hours in all-weather conditions around the world. Equipped with state-of-the-art electronic instruments and renowned autopilot precision, the H225 offers outstanding endurance and fast cruise speed, and can be fitted with various equipment to suit a variety of roles.“

JCG is also operating a fleet of two AS332s, taking the Super Puma fleet to 17 aircraft when all are delivered. In Japan, nearly 30 helicopters form the Super Puma family are flown by various operators. In Japan, Airbus has a strong market share in the helicopter segment.
