The Swiss company, which was founded in 2007 with the purpose of developing, building and supporting a new turbine helicopter, has decided to change its name due to marketing reasons.

“Our new name provides us with immediate recognition. It allows us to own a word that is synonymous with helicopter travel. As we are an unmistakably Swiss company, the use of a ‘k’ – instead of a ‘c’ – gives the Kopter a strong, Swiss–Germanic feel. It has a feeling of solidity and dependability – two things that are essential in our industry,” said the company’s CEO, Andreas Loewenstein.

Kopter has developed a five to eight seat single engine utility helicopter named SH09. A prototype of the light-medium helicopter first flew in October 2014. On its website, Kopter states that the first aircraft should be delivered in 2019. The company announced in 2016 that the Swiss operator Air Zermatt will become SH09’s launch customer.

Loewenstein said of the rebrand: “We’re a company with an upward trajectory. Over the past few years, we have grown quickly. To support that growth, and place us as a leader in our field, we need to be clear about who we are. That means investing in our brand and telling our story.”
