The order follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2017 at the Dubai Airshow.

“These A330Neo aircraft will contribute to developing our medium and long-haul network. It is important for us to begin our commercial activities with aircraft that are both reliable and economical, while offering our passengers unrivalled comfort. This order demonstrates our ambitions for this new airline,” declared Philippe Bohn, CEO Air Senegal.

Air Senegal was founded in 2016 and plans to commence operations in early 2018. The carrier has received two ATR72-600 and plans to operate from the new airport Dakar-Blaise Diagne which opened in December 2017.

The Airbus 330Neo is the latest generation of Airbus’s A330 family. The jet with new engines, a larger wingspan with new winglets and modifications in the cabin should offer a reduction in fuel consumption by about 25% per seat. Air Senegal has ordered the A330-900Neo variant, which can carry up to 440 passengers in a single class seat configuration. The jet will be the successor of the A330-300. As only Hawaiian Airlines has ordered six smaller A330-800Neo, it remains unclear if the successor of the A330-200 will ever be built.
