Bahamasair has become the latest airline to select the global maintenance agreement (GMA) that is being provided as OEM solution by ATR. The agreement includes the entire fleet of Bahamasair, which is composed of two ATR 72-600s and three ATR 42-600s.

Over the course of the contract, Bahamasair can rely on ATR providing standard exchanges, line replacement unit repairs and propeller repairs if needed. In the Caribbean, Bahamasair has become the fourth airline to choose the GMA.

Bahamasair CEO, Tracy Cooper, said: “Every airline needs its aircraft to be flying as much as possible so maintenance is naturally vital. ATR’s GMA responds specifically to our needs and their expertise will reduce the amount of time our aircraft spend on the ground.”

Tom Anderson, Senior Vice-President Programs and Customer Services of ATR added: “Bahamasair’s decision to choose our GMA proves the quality of ATR’s global services footprint that we are able to offer airlines. The value of our policy of offering solutions as close to our operators as possible is reflected by the comprehensive GMA coverage in the Caribbean."

For Bahamasair, the ATR aircraft are essential, as they connect the domestic islands within the Bahamas. That all aircraft are ready for smooth operations, helps the airline to perform its flexible international flight schedule. In the end, not only the airline, but also the passengers can benefit from a fleet that is performing well.

The GMA has been acquired by more than 40 worldwide operators. In total, ATR covers more than 300 aircraft under its maintenance program. In particular, the Latin American and Caribbean markets are of significance for ATR, stated the manufacturer. Over 170 aircraft are being operated by 30 operators in the regions. Due to that fact, ATR has a warehouse in Sao Paulo with MRO partners TAP M&E and APS Brazil.

Bahamasair was initially founded back in 1973 and commenced operations in the same year. The carrier is headquartered in Nassau on the Bahamas. Main airport is Lynden Pindling International Airport. Currently, Bahamasair operates flights with three ATR 42-600s, two ATR 72-600s and three Boeing 737-500s.
