Boeing and Singapore Airlines have celebrated the delivery of the first-ever delivered Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. Boeing’s last Dreamliner version was certified by the FAA in January 2018 after over 900 flight hours of testing.

The new aircraft has a seat capacity for 337 passengers with 36 in Business and 301 in Economy Class. The jets do not have Singapore Airlines’ Premium Economy Class, which was introduced in most A380, B77-300ER and Airbus A350-900 aircraft in 2015.

“It is an honour for us to be the world’s first airline to take delivery of this amazing aircraft. The 787-10 is indeed a magnificent piece of engineering and truly a work of art. It will be an important element in our overall growth strategy, enabling us to expand our network and strengthen our operations,” said Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong at the delivery event.

Singapore Airlines has ordered 49 B787-10 in 2013. The largest Boeing 787 family aircraft is designed for replacing older Boeing 777-200 as well as Airbus A330 and A340. The Boeing 787-10 should be able to compete with the Airbus A350-9 particularly on shorter routes.

Therefore, Singapore Airlines B787-10s will be used for flights up to eight hours. Osaka and Perth will be the first scheduled destinations to be served by the new aircraft, from May 2018. Prior to the introduction of these services, the aircraft will be operated on selected flights to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur for crew training purposes.

Beside the largest customer Singapore Airlines, Boeing has received orders for a total of 171 B787-10 from several airlines including Etihad Airways (30), EVA Air (18) and British Airways (12).

The B787-10 is the last version of Boeing’s Dreamliner fleet. The smallest B787-8 entered into service in 2011 and in October 2017 over 340 aircraft were delivered. The medium-size B787-9 made its maiden flight in 2013 and entered into service in August 2014. 265 aircraft have been delivered until October 2017.
