Industry Britten-Norman brings the Islander to China
Aircraft manufacturer Britten-Norman has announced, that it will bring its Islander regional aircraft to the Chinese market.
The sales agreement includes the intention to actively sell the Islander aircraft to regional and local airlines in the country that seek to meet their demands for short-haul flights. The agreement was signed by Britten-Norman and the Beijing Fangyuan General Aviation Co. Ltd. (BFGA).
Furthermore, the agreement will see BFGA getting supported by Britten-Norman to boost its China general aviation business. As Beijing is expecting a strong expansion of the business, the agreement was strategically well sited. The city is also home to the University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and is known for its connection to the aviation branch.
Britten-Norman Chief Executive William Hynett commented: “China is one of the few countries in the world that has yet to enjoy the benefits that the Islander and its associated equipment has to offer, and as such we are very pleased to be entering into this new agreement.”
“Beijing Fangyuan General Aviation Co Ltd has a proven reputation and track record in the region and a strong desire to grow the general aviation business in China. Initial signs are already very positive and with BFGA’s support we are hoping to turn this early interest into positive sales. We also hope that over time we can further evolve our relationship into a distribution agreement and long-term partnership for the supply of Islanders into the region,” Hynett added.
Originally, the Islander was designed to ease the access to remote locations. This plan has been successful over the past decades. Since then, the Islander has been refined to enable better operating costs, while still building on the original concept of the aircraft. According to Britten-Norman, the Islander are capable of operating in the world´s harshest environments, including all terrain operations like short runways or unprepared surfaces.
The newest development of the Islander features a bigger baggage bay option, three-bladed propellers, a modern interior, more ergonomically designed seats, onboard entertainment options and club seating arrangements.
