COMAC released, that the Shanghai Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center of CAAC (SAAC) has issued and signed the first Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) for the C919 passenger aircraft. This is another step toward certification of the entire aircraft by the Chinese aviation authority.

The issued TIA means, that the structure of the prototype C919 aircraft is nearly verified, and the maturity of each system can ensure the safety during flight that is needed for professional and smooth operations.

It means, that COAMC has now officially entered into authority certification flight test with its C919. Over this occasion, a meeting was arranged, which several COMAC and SAACC representatives attended.

Mr. Zhao Yuerang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC) said: "Warm congratulations on the issuance of the first TIA for C919 aircraft. It is a major event in the history of Nanchang. Nanchang was the birthplace of the first aircraft built in China."

Mr. Shen Xiaoming, Director of Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center of CAAC added: "Since 2008, the certification team of CAAC have worked together with the C919 program team of COMAC, we adhered to the principles of safety first and steady process in the type certification work; the teams of both sides have always maintained a strong sense of political responsibility, attached great importance to work coordination, always regarded capability improvement and airworthiness breakthrough as important tasks, and made a landmark progress."

A total of six C919 aircraft have been put into certification flight test. The manufacturer is performing various test flights to ensure a maximum of flight safety. All critic and non-critic parts of the aircraft, as well as flight characteristics and the reaction to different situations during flight are being tested.

The signed and issued TIA is approving the certification representatives to conduct pre-flight inspections before certification flight tests, on-site witness or flight tests of the aircraft test beds.

COMAC´s C919 is currently being developed for short- to middle-haul flights. The aircraft is China´s answer to Boeing´s 737 MAX and Airbus´ A320neo Family. To date, the programme has received over 300 firm orders, most of them are coming from Chinese airlines who received major bult discounts to drive China´s aviation industry forward.
