Based on the CRJ900 list prices, the firm order is valued at approximately US$961 million. The aircraft are set to replace older regional jets flown by Delta Connection operators.

In late 2018, the US-carrier will receive its first new CRJ900, which will feature a new cabin, Bombardier´s Atmosphère cabin.

Atmosphère brings passengers lager living space, more spacious lavatories and wheel-first roller bag capability, which will allow every passenger to bring an “oversized” bag, as the new arrangement will be more space-saving. Moreover, the Atmosphère cabin was designed with new materials and allows passengers to experience increased cabin connectivity options.

Fred Cromer, president, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, said: “We are thrilled that Delta continues to select the CRJ Series as the airline looks into the future growth of its regional operations [...] Together with Delta, we have driven the development of regional aviation in the U.S., and we are looking forward to further enhancing regional air travel with the launch of the new ATMOSPHÈRE cabin with our long-standing and esteemed customer.”

Delta said, that the aircraft will be configured to accommodate a total of 70 passengers, with 12 first class seats, 20 in Delta Comfort+ and 38 in the main cabin. The aircraft are likely to be deployed on regional routes within the United States and will be used as feeder aircraft for Delta´s hubs. All aircraft are expected to be delivered by 2020.

To date, Bombardier has received 1953 firm orders for its CRJ series aircraft. The series includes the CRJ100/200, CRJ700/705, CRJ900 and CRJ1000 variants. Mainly, the aircraft are being used for short- and mid-haul routes.
