Loftleidir Icelandic has submitted a binding offer for the purchase of 49% stake of Azores Airlines.

With a proposal for 49% of the capital of Azores Airlines Loftleidir Icelandic expressed its interest in the Azorian airline. The proposal is now subject to analysis by SATA Air Açores, Azores Airlines’ sister within the holding of the SATA Group, whose capital is held by the Autonomous Region of Azores as a single shareholder.

Loftleidir Icelandic merged in 1973 with Flugfélag Íslands to form Icelandair. The airline operates its hub at Reykjavik Airport with a fleet of one B737-700, two B737-800, four B757-200 and three B767-300ER.

Azores Airlines belongs to the SATA Group and is one of the six companies that make up SATA. As a whole, SATA operates a fleet of 13 aircraft, being two A321neo, one A330-223, one A310-300, three A320-200, four Bombardier Q400 and two Q200. SATA seeks to connect the Azores to the world and serves international as well as national destinations.
